The PGA Tour gets started in the attractive surroundings of Kapalua with the Hyundai Tournament of Champions, the event which Jonathan Byrd won twelve months ago.

Byrd defeated fellow American Robert Garrigus within a play-off to get the title, his 4th major prizes. Even though winning the 2011 Hyundai Tournament of Champions had been an excellent start for Byrd he failed in order to expand his wining and it became the highlight of an otherwise challenging period. The 33-year old overlooked the cut at each main and then continued to lose a play-off against Lucas Glover within the Wells Fargo Championship.

The 33-year old, states he is actually heading to attempt to have fun with the week instead of concentrate on winning, “I’m seeking to have a good week now however I’m continuing to keep it simple. I’m definitely not considering winning, I’m thinking of looking after what exactly I need to look after, and i hope that will get me in competition with 9 holes to go”

The 2011 event was already in the headlines for the insufficient actual winners in the field following the likes of Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy and Luke Donald all declined the chance to play, which means the only major champion within the 28-man event can be Keegan Bradley .

Early favourites to win the Hyundai Tournament of Champions tend to be world number 6 Steve Stricker and number 10 Webb.
