The Return of Major Brooks

Brooks Koepka has never followed golf's traditional path. He didn't build his reputation on consistency or popularity; he built it on domination, especially when the stakes were highest.
Five major championships arguably made him one of the most feared competitors of his generation. When courses got tougher and pressure peaked, Koepka got better. Majors weren’t just tournaments to him, they were his territory.
Now, after time away from the PGA Tour and a polarizing chapter in LIV Golf, Koepka is back, returning this week at the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines.
This tournament is just the beginning of Brooks’ journey, but it’s safe to assume he’ll be aiming for a strong start and perhaps a win. Players like Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay will be looking to spoil his return to the PGA Tour winner’s circle. With Koepka back, the Farmers Insurance Open has received a major boost.
His return brings excitement and optimism for the future of PGA Tour golf. The long-term challenge Brooks faces comes from a new generation of stars, including golfing phenomenon Scottie Scheffler and newly anointed Grand Slam winner Rory McIlroy. Koepka is a five-time major champion, but those victories came between 2017 and 2023.
The big questions Brooks now faces are:
Can he return to his 2017–2023 form?
Is that enough to take on generational talents like Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy?
Will he rise to the challenge or fall under the weight of expectations?
Only time will tell. I, for one, am looking forward to his appearances this week and in the weeks to come, and I have high expectations for him. For now, let’s enjoy the return of the golfing great Brooks Koepka.
